About Steve Colby

I have been around the construction industry all my life. My background has run the gambit from welding and heavy equipment repair to heavy equipment sales. With this behind me, I take these images of the antique and modern machinery to create these copper sculptures.  I have chosen copper as my medium for its lasting beauty.

I drew on my background in the industry and worked with the familiar images of hydraulic excavators.  These images still fascinate me.   But since moving from Southeast Massachusetts to Alaska, I have been enchanted by the King Salmon and the Copper River at Chitina.  I also find myself drawn to the Alaskan wildlife and the Native Alaskan Spirit images. The Northern Lights add to the creative inspiration of these sculptures.
